Shell Lake boasts one of the area’s largest lakes right downtown. Shell Lake is a beautiful, clear 2,600 acre lake with camping, a playground, public boat landing, a beautiful public beach staffed with lifeguards during the summer, and the pavilion which is home to many concerts, picnics and other events.
In addition to the natural beauty of Shell Lake, the downtown area offers a wide variety of stores, restaurants, museums and even a Monarch Butterfly Habitat. There are endless possibilities of things to do and see in Shell Lake.
On July 3 the air is full of music as the annual street dance begins at 8 p.m. and goes until midnight right on Fifth Avenue in the heart of town. Later that night, the sky comes alive with the magnificent and glorious fireworks. Whether you're watching from a blanket or lawn chair on the beach or in your boat on the sparkling clear waters of Shell Lake, the night is almost always perfect for this spectacular show, which begins at dark.
Over the Labor Day weekend, the Town and Country Days Festival brings people from far and wide to celebrate the diversity of the town, lake and country dwellers. Horse and tractor pulls and the very popular Kiddies Pull combine with lots of food including breakfast served at the airport where you can watch small and sometimes vintage planes fly in and out while you dine. There are sailing regattas, volleyball, bingo, spelling bees, music and entertainment in the Pavilion all day. You'll have quite a time.
